Introduction
Electrical Engineer in the Engineering Department (EN), Electrical Engineering Group (EL), High Voltage Section (HT).
You will join:
•The Department that provides engineering competencies, infrastructure systems, and technical coordination for the world's largest particle accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.
•The Group that is responsible for CERN's electrical distribution network from 400 kV to 400/230 V. Its main missions are to operate, maintain, extend and renovate the electrical network, make projections for CERN's electrical energy consumption and manage relations with the energy suppliers. The group is also in charge of making modifications and extensions to the network when required by new projects, with project studies, equipment procurement, installation, supervising and commissioning.
•The High Voltage Section (HT) that is responsible for the modification, renovation and extension of the high voltage network (400 kV, 66 kV, 20 kV, 18 kV, 3.3 kV). The Section duties also include the procurement of high voltage equipment (switchgears, cables, transformers, protection relays, diesel generators, etc.), the modelling of the high voltage network and the network protection coordination.
Functions
As an Electrical Engineer in the High Voltage (HT) Section, you will actively take part in the extension, consolidation and the renovation of the electrical distribution network of CERN. You will be one of the project engineers bundling the CERN's electrical distribution network for the future. Further, you will manage contracts for the procurement of medium and high voltage equipment.
You will:
•Carry out the conceptual and detailed design studies for high voltage electrical substation and networks.
•Carry out network load analysis and high voltage equipment sizing.
•Write technical specifications for the purchase of high voltage equipment.
•Contribute to the preparation of the medium and long-term development studies of CERN's electrical distribution network.
•Manage projects for the consolidation and extension of the existing high voltage electrical infrastructure involving multidisciplinary activities such as civil engineering, ventilation, IT systems.
•Manage contracts for the procurement of high voltage equipment
Qualification required
Master's degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience and competencies
The experience required for this post is:
•A demonstrated experience in the design, construction and commissioning of high-voltage electrical networks and substations.
•A demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of the high voltage equipment.
The following experience would be considered an asset:
•An initial experience in managing projects in the framework of substation and network construction.
•An initial experience in managing procurement contracts with international contractors.
•Experience of low voltage distribution networks.
The technical competencies required for this post are:
•Design of HV network & substations: indoor and outdoor substation design including coordination of protections.
•Commissioning, maintenance & operation of electrical distribution systems.
•Contract management: specification and purchasing of high voltage equipment.
•The technical knowledge about HV power transformers and cables is considered an asset.
The behavioural competencies required for this post are:
•Managing self: taking initiative beyond regular tasks and making things happen.
•Achieving results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind.
•Working in teams: understanding when teamwork is required to achieve the best results; including others accordingly and sharing information.
•Communicating effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak.
The language competencies required are:
•Spoken and written English and French in professional contexts as well as the ability to draw-up technical specifications and project reports and to make oral presentations in the two languages.
